the semester is almost thru and classes are over- hence the nostalgia. the concept of white elephant gifts is different and basically impulsive in Mexico. the literal translation is los regalos de elephantes blancos. i have five exams next week. i can't remember if that is regular.
i wonder if i could ever make it to age 30 without actually ever having to buy a car? suppose i formed the habit of biking, or, cooler yet: roller blading everywhere. once, i got a sweet pair of roller blades for my birthday, and I proceeded to wear them often that summer. Sadly enough, we live in the boondocks again and it is rather difficult to roller blade on gravel. i learned how to drive stick shift on gravel. that was a very annoying day in my life. this past summer, i had waited patiently for my father to have time to teach me how to drive a stick, and he wouldn't let anyone else teach me because i guess he wanted to. So, one day my regular car broke down. mom was in china getting Shiyan, so dad and i were babysitting the other four kids. well, i swear it was one of the hottest days of summer with intense heat(96) and zero breeze. dad in the passenger, me at the wheel, and the four munchkins in the sweltering backseat. well, the poor children will probably never trust me at driving again. we jerked back and forth with such frequency that the look of terror never left Jiana's face. As soon as she thought it was over... she was wrong. i must say that I must have been one of the fastest stick-shift learners ever, though. the AC didn't work, and the driver's side window did not work either. so, there i sat, with sweat in too many areas of my body, the horrified kids in the back, and my dad in front with his knees overwhelming the dashboard.
ay caramba.
